This classic African safari vacation packs in 13 game drives to see lion, leopard, zebra, giraffe, and countless other creatures of Kenya’s most famous national parks and wildlife reserves.

Come face to face with adventure in custom-made 6-person 4-wheel-drive safari vehicles staffed by expert safari guides. Take in the best views of the “Big 5,” the Samburu “Special 5,” and every impala, ostrich, and gazelle in between—all in their natural habitats. Need to slow down and put on the brakes? Sumptuous safari lodges and comfortable tented camps, breakfast in the bush, and late day sundowner drinks present the perfect opportunities to rest near the rhinos, raise a mimosa to the monkeys, and say cheers to the cheetahs. Just try to camouflage your excitement.

Get ready for big game, grand views, and even grander memories in Amboseli National Park. Crowned by Mount Kilimanjaro, this massive elephant stomping ground is one of Africa’s best places to get up close to large herds in a variety of habitats.

Travelers Notes

The Great Migration is a natural event, and the movements of the migrating herds is difficult to predict year to year. Generally speaking, the herds are in the Maasai Mara from August to early November. During this time you’re likely to see the herds. River crossings are more of a challenge but we’ll adjust game viewing if there is a chance to witness this rare and extraordinary sight!

Day 1

Welcome to Nairobi, gateway to your dream safari. Hotel rooms are available for mid-afternoon check-in.

Day 2

Drive north out of the city to Samburu National Reserve, home to the Shaba “Special 5,” a collection of unique animals, including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, beisa oryx, and gerenuk. Start your safari adventure with an afternoon game drive.

Day 3

SHABA Arid Awakening
Morning and afternoon game drives with free time at your lodge in between. Due to the dry climate, grasses are sparse, making animals easier to spot. Meanwhile, the Ewaso Ng’iro River, which borders the reserve, provides a year-round water supply. These two factors make for a great game viewing experience! Sundowner drinks in the bush are served prior to returning to your lodge for dinner.

SUNDOWNER DRINKS This evening, savor an experience evoking the legendary traditions of safaris with a memorable happy hour in the bush, complete with sunset views over the Ewaso Ng’iro River!

Day 4

SHABA–OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY Wonderful Weavers & Wildlife Sanctuaries
Depart for Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. En route, stop at Nanyuki Spinners and Weavers, a project aimed at building sustainable livelihoods for local women through social and economic activities. After lunch, visit the [LF] Sweetwaters Chimp Sanctuary, then set out for an afternoon game drive.

TAKE SANCTUARY Learn more about the plight of chimpanzees during a visit to Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary. In partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Jane Goodall Institute, the sanctuary offers a long term home to orphaned and abused chimpanzees—a moving example of wildlife conservation for future generations.

ACCOMMODATION SPOTLIGHT A guest favorite, Sweetwaters Serena Camp is in the heart of the conservancy with magnificent views of Mount Kenya. Globus guests are always given tents directly in front of the floodlit waterhole where wildlife comes to drink day and night—see animals directly from your private verandah!

Day 5

Morning game drive in Ol Pejeta. Then, journey through the beautiful Kenyan highlands, one of the most fertile agricultural areas in all of Africa to Lake Nakuru National Park. Settle in to your lodge prior to dinner.

Day 6

LAKE NAKURU At the Water’s Edge
Your morning game drive includes an exclusive [LF] bush breakfast. Keep your eyes out for giraffe, impala, flamingo, striped hyena, and a variety of birdlife along the water’s edge. Free time at your lodge before an afternoon game drive.

BREAKFAST IN THE BUSH As part of your morning game drive, you’ll be treated to this time-honored safari experience in Africa’s unmatched landscapes, reminiscent of Africa’s early explorers. Sip mimosas as you savor this memorable experience in the wild.

Day 7

This morning, depart for Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s most famous game area. “The Mara,” as it is called by locals, is part of the Serengeti ecosystem and boasts a strong permanent population of game. When the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra arrives, typically from August to early November, their population grows by almost 2 million - a bountiful food source for predators such as lion, cheetah, leopard, and hyena. After lunch at your lodge, set out on an afternoon game drive.

Day 8

MAASAI MARA Magical Mara
Morning and afternoon game drives with free time to relax at your camp in between. Be sure to watch for elephant, rhino, giraffe, topi, hyena, and much more. Tonight, join a [LF] farewell dinner in the bush featuring a traditional Maasai dance performance.

DINNER & DANCE The Maasai people bring a history of colorful culture tied to this wilderness known as the cradle of life. Your special farewell dinner in the bush includes a traditional Maasai dance performance celebrating an ancient culture amid the majestic wildlife who find sanctuary here. The perfect ending to a spectacular safari adventure.

Day 9

After breakfast, fly to Amboseli National Park (via Nairobi). Arrive in Amboseli, known for spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro or “Kili” as the locals call it – the highest mountain in Africa. Embark on an afternoon game drive before settling in at your lodge.

SLEEPING GIANT While exploring Amboseli National Park, it’s hard to miss the commanding presence of Africa’s highest mountain. Actually, a dormant volcano, Mount Kilimanjaro stands high above the plains, offering majestic views above all those it surveys.

Day 10

AMBOSELI Adventure in Amboseli
Morning and afternoon game drives are included today. Amboseli affords you a terrific opportunity to get close to the mighty elephant. You might also spot Cape buffalo, zebra, wild dog, and more.

Day 11

AMBOSELI–NAIROBI Drive back to Nairobi where a day room has been reserved for your use. Schedule departing flights after 5 pm.
